Vera Schuh has made baby afghans using the remnants of yarn that she uses to make the sweaters (880 made to date).  She is suggesting if anyone wishes to purchase one that they make a check for $35 to the Building Fund at Zion.  Afghans are on display on the table in the narthex.

Looking ahead:  Music rehearsals to begin in September!  Choir begins on Wed. 9/8 at 7:00 p.m.  Handbells begin on Sunday, 9/12 at 6:30 p.m.  Beginning Chimes rehearsals start on Tuesday 9/14 at 6:00 p.m. at the church.

FOUR WEEKS LEFT for Advent Devotional submissions - God speaks to us in various ways, including through the words and experiences of each other.  That’s why we are so passionate about the Advent Devotional, which debuted last year and touched many of us as we prepared for Christ’s birth.  We’d like to hear from you for our 2nd edition.  The format is the same - your personal story, with a Scripture passage (include version of Bible used), prayer and a challenge.  A copy of last year’s Advent Devotional is in the narthex for reference.  You can also just submit a personal story or poem and we will complete the rest.  We are also accepting artwork to illustrate the devotions.  We need your submission by Oct. 3rd.

CROP Walk Is Coming! - Sunday, October  3rd.  This walk is to raise funds for Church World Service which provides help in underdeveloped nations as well as places of crisis. It also raises money locally for Care and Share and Huron’s Helping Hands Food Pantry.  This year it is being held in honor of Pastor Bill Hlavin and the 3/25th Battalion of Marines who are serving in Afghanistan.  The walkers will meet at Columbus Ave. United Methodist Church with registration at 1:00 p.m. The walk will begin at 2:00.  Walker sign-up sheets and envelopes are on the display table in the narthex of the church.  Let’s have a good turnout from Zion. We can car pool from church at 1:00.

Chi-Rho students’ parents are invited to meet with Pastor Vance on Sunday, September 26th at 4:00 p.m.  A letter with info will be mailed to each family.

Life Application Bibles are presented to those who volunteer to teach Sunday school. This year the Bd. Of Parish Ed. ordered extra copies to make available to anyone who is looking for a very easy to read Bible with very complete information about the history, culture, and context of the scriptures. If you would like to purchase one of these Bibles for $23, please see Michelle Berry, Amy Hurst or Leslie Foxworth.

The Fall Master Schedule is posted on the bulletin board.  Bring your calendars to worship and pick a Sunday to help with worship.  The Sunday School teachers schedule is also on the same sheet.

LWR school kits - We have 17 completed school kits and some supplies for the 14 bags that have been made.  BUT WE NEED:  pencil sharpeners, blunt scissors, spiral notebooks, construction paper, rulers and pencils.   If you can sew, there are some bags cut and ready to sew.

Remember your pink Mortgage Retirement envelope!
