An Act of Faith

Lutherans have been gathering for worship in Huron, Ohio since the 1890s. A group of locals traveled each Sunday 10 miles to and from worship at Zion Lutheran in Sandusky. When the weather did not allow them to travel they held their own worship in Huron. In 1895 this stalwart group of believers asked their pastor in Sandusky to help start a congregation in Huron. Unfortunately, the time was not right for the big church to birth the little church.

Just as the century turned, the request was made again, and on March 10, 1901 in Huron Ohio, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church was incorporated with 42 charter members. One hundred and five years later the Hahn family, the Klein family, and the Zimmerman family are still attending. Many families have joined them over the years.

Faithful pastors have served Zion over the century. The Rev. Theodore J.C. Stellhorn was the first. The Rev. Raymond H. Vance is the fifteenth.
