9:30 Ushers Quick Sheet


ARRIVE : Be ready at the rear of the Sanctuary by 9:15

LIGHTS : Turn on Narthex & Sanctuary lights

DOORS : Set outside door locks open and open & set stops for Sanctuary doors.

COFFEE : Make coffee in Upper Room & place pots on hotplates in Narthex. 

 Before the Service Starts

P.A. SYSTEM: Turn ON at main power strip.

CANDLES: If there is no acolyte (check with Pastor), light both altar candles and the center Pascal candle.

WORSHIPERS – Greet them with a smile and by name, if you can, and hand them a bulletin.  Watch for late arrivals after the service starts.

 During the Service

LATE ARRIVING WORSHIPPERS: If Sanctuary is nearly full, be aware of where empty seats are and escort late arrivals to them.

SANCTUARY DOORS: Close rear and side Sanctuary doors when service prelude music starts.

SANCTUARY LIGHTS: (Press remote buttons for no more than One second at a time) If Pastor uses projector, dim lights with remote control (Press ‘PROJ’ button)

COMMUNION: (By Table):  6 persons maximum per each side. Fewer is OK. Try not to split families. – Do not wait – With four servers it goes rather quickly.  Start persons forward from the pews for the next table as soon as  the previous group kneels at the rail.  If one side of pews finishes first, invite remaining persons to commune at other side’s table. Ushers commune with last tables.

OFFERING: As Offering hymn starts, come forward to receive plates from acolyte or Pastor.  Gather offerings and wait until the offering hymn ends and then bring plates forward in center aisle as the Offertory music starts.  Return by side aisles.

FELLOWSHIP FOLDERS: Be ready and, as soon as Pastor ends the Sermon prayer and begins the Sermon, pass them out, from the side aisles, front to back

WORSHIP ATTENDANCE COUNT:  After the youth are dismissed and/or as the sermon begins, make SEPARATE COUNTS of persons upstairs and persons down stairs (Sunday School).  Enter each of the counts in the Attendance Book kept in the usher’s closet.  Count every breathing soul present– including pastors, acolytes, choir, musicians, babies, youth and all persons in the nursery and the Sunday School.

REAR & SIDE SANCTUARY DOORS: At the end of the service, latch them open as last hymn is sung & the pastor comes to the rear of the sanctuary.

After the Service and Before Leaving

PEWS AND HYMNAL RACKS: Check & straighten hymnal racks, remove trash from pews & floor. Remove the Fellowship folders & place them in the usher’s closet.

OFFERING SECURITY: Place offerings into the marked bag in the Sacristy & place it in the lock box in the Sacristy.  Return offering plates to the shelves behind the altar.

CANDLES: Extinguish all candles after the service.

COFFEE: Turn off the hot plates and empty & rinse pots into the sink in the Upper Room.

DOORS: Close and set latches on all upstairs (including main entry) doors.  Check to see that all downstairs doors are closed and latched.

LIGHTS:  Turn all lights OFF including those downstairs and in stairwell.  If altar team has not yet finished, Press ‘ALTAR’ button on Sanctuary dimmer remote control so that the altar lights will remain ON.  They will turn them off later.
