What's Happening at Zion

In case of a pastoral emergency, Pastor Ralph's home phone number is: 419-797-4983.

If you are admitted to the hospital, please call Pastor Ralph or the church office to inform us.

Sincere Christian sympathy is extended to the family of LaDonna Clawson, who passed away on January 28th.  Her funeral service was held on Thursday, February 2nd, with Pastor Schibler officiating.

George Sheard and family wish to thank everyone for the prayers, cards and visits to Shirley during her illness while a resident of the Erie County Care Facility.  Thanks also to all for the prayers, cards and condolences to the family when Shirley went to be with God.

This morning we have students who will be receiving their First Communion.  They are:  Lily Dendinger, Jessica Holsapple, Mia Hurst, Drew Mamere, Cora Mamere, Cody Mamere, Bryce Nevison, Cooper Norwell, Emma Solberg and Megan Solberg.  Please join them in a reception in their honor following the service.   (The First Communion certificates are in the narthex.)

Today is Boy Scout Sunday.  Scouts in our congregation include: Bryce Nevison, Kyle Moyer, and Tanner Mize.

TODAY is First Sunday Food Pantry Collection.  Canned goods, non-perishable foods, laundry detergent, dish detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, personal hygiene are welcomed.

The first meeting of the Worship Schedule Review committee announced at our annual meeting will be next Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 7:00 pm at the church.  Even if you did not sign up you are welcome to attend.  See you there. Pastor Ralph & Board of Deacons

Circle of Love: a prayer ministry that supports our church families. It began in 2006; for five years our families have been under prayer by members of our congregation. We’ll celebrate our fifth year on February 12, 2012 right after the 10:30 service. Plan to attend - R.S.V.P. by Feb. 5th.  Call Shelia or Tom Preston at 419-433-8504 or Georgia and Pat Scheid at 419-433-4198. We are thankful for all who have agreed to be part of the prayer team, and  thankful that we may pray for all who attend Zion. Praise be to God.

The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper is returning on Feb-ruary 21st, at 6:00p.m. in Zion’s Fellowship Hall. There will be games, fun & silliness for all ages, followed by a brief pre-Lenten worship. A free-will offering will be collected to cover the cost of the evening, and canned goods for Food Pantry  will be welcomed. Please sign-up to let us know how many to prepare for. There is also a sign-up sheet for those who wish to help during the evening.

Wings of Love is coming!  Plan to come to an enjoyable, relaxing evening of poetry, music, great food and wonderful fellowship on Saturday, February 25, 6:00 p.m. here at the church.  Bring in your craft items for the teacup auction!  Tickets are available for $5 from Judy Burrows or Julie Necina.

It’s Baby Month at Zion - we are collecting new or gently used baby clothes, blankets, crib sheets, disposable diapers, baby wipes, lotion, shampoo, powder, etc., and coupons for diapers.  The collection will run until February 26th.

Have you been thinking about cleaning out those closets, cupboards and drawers?  Goodwill Industries and the Volunteer Center in Sandusky have joined forces in the B the 1 project. SALM (Sandusky Area Lutheran in Mission) is supporting their efforts. Just pick up a packet of 4 Goodwill bags from the table in the narthex, fill them with items you no longer want and take them to a convenient Goodwill Store - ours is in the DrugMart Plaza.  Those 4 bags will provide 1 Goodwill job for 1 person for 1 day. Clothing, household goods, toys, books and computers will be welcomed.  Their goal was to fill 40,000 bags and they have extended the deadline for several more weeks.  Please help yourself and make a difference in our community.

We’ll be updating the church’s address/phone directory in the near future.  We need your latest addresses, phone numbers (cell phone numbers especially if you have given up your land line), and also your email address.

The Call Committee is requesting the members of Zion commit to saying the following prayer on a daily basis as we continue to await the arrival of our new pastor:  Dear Lord, during this time of transition at Zion, we pray that you will open our minds, hearts, and spirits to welcome whomever You call to be the pastor of this fine church.  Fill our imaginations and guide our wills, that we might follow only where You lead the way.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

Spring Project - New Roof for the Christian Center!  If you would like to donate to this fund, please specify your contribution, whether by cash or check, to be applied to the “Roof Fund.”

Things to consider:

  • The 2012  worship helpers’ sign up sheet is on the narthex bulletin board - can you help on a Sunday?
Wish List item: a wireless microphone for $525 (balance now needed is $505).  Partial donations to this will be accepted

On Monday, February 13, 2012 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church there will be a Life Line Screening preventive health event to scan for the risk of stroke and other vascular conditions.   To register, call 1-800-679-5192

Remember your pink Mortgage Retirement envelope!
The jar for spare change for the Community Meal is located in the narthex. Do you have some loose change?
